President Muhammadu Buhari during the inauguration ceremony.
Punch reports that all the service chiefs will get the boot before the end of July except for the Police IG, Solomon Arase, who might be secured.
The service chiefs are the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshall Alex Badeh; Chief of Army Staff, Major General Kenneth Minimah; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Usman Jibrin; and Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshall Adesola Amosu.
It would be recalled that President Buhari on July 2, fired the Director General of the Department of State Service, Ita Ekpenyong.
The newly-appointed DSS head Lawal Daura, had retired from the service before he was recalled to lead the agency.Daura, who is from the same area as Buhari, almost 62, retired from the SSS in 2013, having reached the statutory retirement age of 60.
Itse Sagay, a foremost constitutional lawyer, who spoke with Premium Times, said it was difficult to criticize the president for appointing his kinsman as DG SSS.
Sagay noted that the secret police under ex-president Goodluck Joanthan had become too political and polarised that it was hard for Mr. Buhari to work with them.
He said: “The SSS under former President Goodluck Jonathan had become an agent of the Peoples Democratic Party. You can remember when they invaded the APC office in Lagos claiming that the party was cloning voters’ cards.
“Nigerians also saw how their spokesperson, Marylyn Ogar, became an attack dog for the PDP and went after leaders of the APC. Therefore, it is difficult for Buhari to trust them.”
